Committed to Sustainability

Our sustainability practices begin in the kitchen. Our 28,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art kitchen is 98% solar-powered, with a fully powered back-up generator. Relying on solar, and supplementing that with our generator, allows us to not only provide consistent service in the event of an emergency but also avoid food wasted that can occur when other large kitchens lose refrigeration.

Solar is just one aspect of our commitment to sustainability. Our relationship with local farmers is a key to keeping our kitchen green—local, organic produce and sustainable seafood are served whenever feasible. A waste diversion program in our kitchen ensures that recyclables get recycled, and kitchen scraps get composted to create fertilizer and fuel for natural gas vehicles. All extra food is donated to the Hope of the Valley Rescue Mission, ensuring that as much food as possible is used. In addition, we use compostable packaging whenever we can, and we partner with our clients to replace water bottles with filtered water stations. All these practices help ensure Bruce’s Catering creates minimal waste while thoughtfully managing resources.

Supporting our Community

Everyone deserves a great meal, and we are committed to helping the community we love. Bruce’s Catering helps prepare and serve meals through key partnerships with local charitable organizations. Notably, we have an ongoing relationship with Hope of the Valley Rescue Mission. Every year, Bruce’s Catering provides Thanksgiving dinner for 1,200 unhoused individuals and Bruce’s employees volunteer their time at the shelter throughout the year. We also  donate approximately 75,000 meals annually and all extra food at the end of the day is given to the shelter, ensuring that every bite of good food goes to someone who needs it.

Other charities Bruce’s Catering supports include:

Bracken’s Kitchen, Every Day Action, Harold & Caroline Pump Foundation, LAPD – Coffee with a Cop, LAPD – Mission Division Training, Lipstick Angels, Lynne Cohen Foundation, Making Education the Answer (META), Motion Picture Television Fund, National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Ronald McDonald Charities, Teamsters Local 399, and Water the Seeds Foundation, among others,

Emergency Response

Fueling Front Lines

Bruce’s Catering has been on the front lines.

We’re serving first responders during wildfires and after earthquakes, and adapting to the changing needs of any situation. With forty years of experience feeding large numbers of people, we are frequently the first call to serve front line workers, and we have the facilities to ensure that essential workers get the sustenance they need.

Solar-powered and scalable

Our 28,000 square foot kitchen is solar-powered and able to scale to changing demand easily, and a back-up generator is there to ensure we can work for weeks while others are still assessing the damage.

Flexible to travel

Our fleet of mobile kitchens is well-equipped to travel, and has regularly served both remote areas during wildfire emergencies and urban areas during crises.
